Summer 2019 Camps
Our goal is to build confidence and expose children to the arts as early as possible. We offer diverse and unique curriculum in theater, music, film, and writing. We are continuing to expand our offerings each year. This summer we are proud to announce partnerships with some artists in residence. This is a way to expose our students to enrichment opportunities from professionals in bigger markets.
Popstars

Ages 6-9
Date: June 10-14
Time: 9am-12pm
Location: Waukee Community Center M-W and Saint Francis Parish WDM on Thursday and Friday.
Kids learn the art of the stage and performance while creating their own persona as a popstar. Students will work on a song to perform and a music video. No previous music or vocal experience necessary.

Rock Star Kidz Camp

Date: June 10-14
Time: 1pm-4pm
Location: Waukee Community Center M-W and Saint Francis Parish WDM on Thursday and Friday.
Kids learn the art of the stage and performance in an ensemble setting. They will learn how instruments work together to create a sound. They will work to create their own image as a rock band. Students will work on a song to perform and make a music video. These will both be debuted at our end of Summer Showcase, Aug. 17th at West Des Moines Valley's Staplin Auditorium. No previous music, vocal or instrument experience necessary.

Stunts and Runts Action Movie Camp

Location: Saint Francis of Assisi School
Artist in Residence from Chicago, Emmy nominated filmmaker CAPTAIN FAMOUS here to teach us about film! Students will learn all about action movies, acting, use of props and writing. They will come together to create their own original action movie complete with special effects! Movie will be debuted on Aug. 17th.

Time: 1pm-5pm
Location: Saint Francis of Assisi School
Artist in Residence from Chicago, Emmy nominated filmmaker CAPTAIN FAMOUS here to teach us about film! Older students will learn the art of making movies! They will work in small groups to create their own short film.They will use cameras, mics and editing software. They will also be creating their own script. Their films will be debuted on Aug. 17th .

Rise Up! Hamilton Inspired Camp

Location: Premiere Dance Project Waukee
This camp will be taught by Artist in Residence from Chicago Bravemonk and K-Soul, Director of prestigious Columbia College Hip Hop Studies and faculty of Chicago's famous Hubbard Street Dance! Students will learn all about Hamilton! We will study dance, hip hop, spoken work and themes around diversity and inclusion. Students will sing and dance in a performance at the end of the week to 3 songs from Hamilton. The content will be age appropriate.

Blues To Beatles Guitar Camp
Grades entering 6-12 (note this is grade not age)
Date: July 8-12
Time: 9am-12pm
Location: Waukee Middle School
This camp will be taught by Artist in Residence Joe Sweet, Chairman of the Music Department at Chicago's prestigious Lane Tech College Prep High School. The camp is for beginners and intermediates. Learn guitar in a fun and cool way by applying traditional techniques to popular genres of the Blues and Beatles.
This camp registration will go through Waukee School District. Registration available Friday, March 15th.

Batter Up! Sports Broadcasting Camp

Grades entering 5-12 (note this is grade not age)
Date: July 15-19
Time: 9am-12pm
Location: Waukee Middle School
In conjunction with the Iowa Cubs and KCCI Des Moines. Kids will have an opportunity to put together their own sports broadcasts. They will be job shadowing at an Iowa Cubs game and working with industry professionals.
This camp registration will go through Waukee School District. Registration available Friday, March 15th.
The camp will have 2 options, one with job shadow at the July 17th 7:08pm game, and one will be job shadow at the July 18th day 12:08 day game.
